If any of you are regular followers of Porn In The Valley, you will see that I recently got hit with 67,149 views there. I have been writing that blog for 4 years now. I started out with 50 followers, grew to 250 and then to 900. I would get blips of 5,000-10,000 but this is the best I’ve ever had. I got alot of help to make this happen. I focused in on what I needed to happen, hit up every single person I knew and just knew what I was doing had to make it. Now, you can all see the result of my positive thinking. This can be you as well!!
You can change the World. It begins with YOU. There are many different options for starting a blog so all you need is the topic to cover, a blog site which you can get for free and a little time each day to look at your topic news. The next thing you know, you’re sharing your ideas with the World.
As far as starting or growing your own business, it works the same way. I’ve got a few different businesses going now. I have my independent journalist/activism sites which is a business in and of itself. This is actually my volunteer work because I do this for free. Then I have my Small Business Consulting firm which offers web design, social networking packages and organizational system setup and management. I am also a Real Estate Mobile Closer which means I go to people’s homes to get their signatures on real estate documentation. Each of these take the same type of skills with some specialized knowledge in each area. I took my best skills and then found my specialties based on what I really love to do. I love playing on the computer, giving my opinion and digging through contract law. I’ve got three of my favorite things in my daily work now 🙂
So far, money is still tight and I’m living alone now so only one paycheck to cover everything. I have focused in on getting the bills paid for now and more will come later once I’m more established. It’s good to set goals in steps. Once you complete a step, now you look forward to the next step to come while still getting some accomplishment satisfaction now. That helps our instant gratification fixation that is so part of the World these days. My job right now is to establish my name and work which I’m doing through the online portfolio I’m building here. Once you’ve hit the radar, it’s just a matter of time until things heat up and then you don’t have time for anything but work. That’s why you need to choose your profession based on what you love instead of the money you make. We spend alot of time at work so you need to enjoy what you do to be truly happy.
That’s when you know that you’ve really made it in life lol!!
I spent time this weekend relaxing and catching up with friends and family. Got to sneak over for a nice visit with my little pocketful of sunshine. She just turned 6 months old this weekend. You just can’t get any better than having a great family and friends in life!!
This week, I’m dividing my time between my work and work for others. I’m still working on mailing lists for some huge mass mailings on behalf of the medical services company I’m dealing with now. I have another company that I am helping them get ready for audits. I have an extremely strong background in compliance which is one of my favorite things to do.
Many times, small businesses will cut corners because they are small and run by family members in many cases. This is one of the worst mistakes a business owner can make. If you start your own business, start it right from the very beginning. You start with an idea and then build from there. Be sure you add policies and procedures at the beginning. It’s much easier to update staff than to retrain bad habits that are engrained in daily work schedules. This is probably the #1 mistake I see in small businesses. Plan and implement as you go making sure that the important issues are covered first.
Once you have systems set up, be consistent with what you do. I worked with one company who changed policies as much as we all change underwear lol. What was happening was the staff became so confused, they didn’t know which was the right way and which was the old ways. Plan changes that need to be made. Give staff the information, train them and give time for it all to sink in before making it the new norm.
In whatever you do, take the time to write your plan down in detail. List everything you can think of that needs to be done to accomplish your goals. Then list pros and cons of your ideas and anything that might get in the way of reaching those goals. Make a timeline marking each step and when it will be completed. Have smaller goals along the way to your main goal so you can feel the success it brings when each step is reached. Make sure you haven’t forgotten anything that will hinder your success. Then start moving through your steps and you’ll be that much closer to reaching YOUR MAIN GOAL!!
